【易错警示】country,nation,state与land
country country: 乡村或者是国家, 指国家时,代表的是一个概念,是虚词,并非指领土等有实体的东西;是指代"国家"的通俗用法. The country is opposed to war. 那个国家举国上下反对战争。
nation nation:国家或者是民族,比country具体,在某些场合更为正式. The President spoke on TV to the nation. 总统对全国人民发表电视演说。
state state: 州或者是国家、政府,多数时候是指州. 当用于指国家、政府时通常指较小的政权。state是政权意义上的“国家”,“政府”,如:
It has disappeared as an independent state. 作为一个独立的国家,它已经消失了。
land land常用于文学中,侧重国土,带感情色彩。my native land 我的祖国。

【易错警示】couple与pair
couple couple表示“两个相同的人或物(two things of the same kind)”,指人或物。指夫妻只能用couple,不能用pair。couple表示“夫妇,夫妻”且用作主语时,谓语动词可用单数(视为整体,尤其是当有each, every, only one等修饰时);也可以是复数(考虑其个体)。Not every couple is a pair.成双未必成对。
pair pair指使用时彼此不能分开的两件东西构成的物品(a 
set of two things which are not used separately from each other),这两件东西可以连在一起,也可以不连在一起,但缺一不可。He is wearing a pair of glasses.
